Riders coming to the Academy will have to be prepared for the best day of snowboarding ever! New riders and experienced veterans alike have to get ready for their day. We want you to know what to you need to know, wear what you need to wear, walk the walk, and talk the talk. Here are just a few things to get you started in the right direction...

In Your Shred Den
Check your gear
- Make sure all your nuts, bolts, and screws are tight
- Make sure your laces are in good shape and put your boots in a warm place for the night
- Check your stance width and angles. We recommend slightly wider than shoulder width apart and duck stance angles (toes apart) ranging from 3 front foot -3 rear foot and 15 front foot -15 rear foot.
Practice your skills and visualize your goals
- Practice the ranges of motion and learn some important skills on your carpet. For more info check the Methodology tab...
- Learn some sick tricks like presses, ollies, nollies, trip pods, spins, blocks
- Watch some video clips and get some ideas of exactly what you want to learn.
Snowboarding Essentials
Every rider needs to come prepared with an open mind ready for FUN! Along with that here is a list of must haves to make sure your day is amazing:
- Gloves: Check the weather if it's cold you need warm ones if it's springy then some pipe gloves will work great!
- Jacket and Pants: Something water resistant and wind proof will do the trick. If you get cold easy be sure to wear insulated outerwear.
- Base layers: Cotton can trap sweat and moisture and make you cold and uncomfortable. Look for something that will wick water away and and help you feel dry.
- Good Socks: Dry comfortable feet can make the difference when you're trying to shred all day.
- Goggles or good sun glasses: Eye protection is a must have when your on the snow even if it's not sunny the reflection can burn your eyes.
- Sun screen: Protect your skin from the wind and the sun it's a no brainer.
A morning in the good life
We can't control your experience before you get to the resort but we can make your experience amazing once you get here. Remember to arrive early, eat a good breakfast, and have some time to chill with us in the lounge doing so can really make a big difference in your day. Here's what you have to know to make it an easier experience:
- Park close to a shuttle pick up if you're coming for the day or know the best route to the season pass office from your hotel or condo.
- Season pass is the in the village and will have short lines and smiling faces to get you signed up and ticketed.
- Head to the gondola and enjoy the ride
- exit the gondola building and head to the right (if your facing uphill). Walk past the day lodge and the ski school building and you'll find the lounge (it's covered in Academy branded graphics and Burton logos).

Scheduling the good life
This is your day and we always build our plans around your goals. Here is a general schedule so you know what to expect:
- 8:30-9:30am Arrive, meet your coach, get a snack, watch some snowboard footy, get geared up.
- 9:30-10:00am First Timers get started with your balance session indoor and outdoor. Intermediate and Advanced riders will hit the mountain to get their shred on.
- 10:15-Lunch Beginners hit the Academy features to build some comfort sliding, moving, and turning. Intermediate and advanced riders spend time working on new skills and riding new terrain.
- After lunch-3:30ish Everyone is shredding and loving it!
- 3:30-4:00 wrapping it up, video analysis, chilling out, heading to the village for some good food...
