Q&A With Liz Sheppard

Most memorable coaching moment

Today, it's teaching in the rain. Some of my best coaching days have been in the rain. The snow is fun, soft and forgiving. I love when your out all day, stoked to be ridding, teaching kids new tricks and, when it was all said and done, you never realized that you are soaking wet and maybe a little cold. All you remember is what a sweet day it was! It's even better when your clients come inside with the biggest grin on their face and his friends begin to wonder “what was I missing out there?” and when they ask if he's ready to leave, the response is always, “just one more...”

Coolest part of the academy (in my opinion)

The people. Hands down the best crew of people out there. Laid back, passionate friendly people looking to have fun, love life and go snowboarding. The videos are pretty sweet and I have to say, the recycling can rocks!

Camber or rocker

Camber.

How long have you been coaching/riding?

I've been coaching for eight years, and have been riding for nine.

Favorite place to snowboard at Northstar. Why

The trees between burnout and Rail Spliter, especially early season - but not too early! Can't really tell you why, it's just my feel good place.

Favorite trick.

Of all things what I am dying to do most right now is a nose grab. Simple, sweet and it just feels good.

Most inspirational rider/motivation

My husband. He is just always that little bit ahead of me. I love watching him grow as a snowboarder and it always drives me that little bit more to learn new tricks. There's nothing like a friendly competition with a good friend. Plus, it's awesome when I nail something before him.

Trick of the season

Switch back 3's and a 540. That's a lot of spinning... and maybe a nice crail grab in a front board - sound silly, but fun.
